Hormone Replacement Therapy For Men

What is andropause?

Testosterone is essential for healthy male body function. It increases interest in sexual activity, maintains muscle and bone, helps preserve normal oil secretion in the skin and hair, and both, directly and indirectly, affects parts of the brain that are responsible for normal mental processes, concentration, and mood. Additionally, Testosterone is necessary for optimal heart and artery health.

Andropause, the male equivalent to menopause in women, is an imbalance in normal hormone levels, namely testosterone and affects all men to some degree as they age. When abundant, testosterone is at the core of energy, strength, stamina, and sexuality. When deficient, testosterone can be a precursor to disease and early demise.

Causes

Beginning at around thirty years of age, testosterone production in men decreases as a result of many causes, with aging as the most common. Between the ages of forty and fifty, many men experience a profound drop in both total testosterone levels, and the percentage of testosterone that is readily available for the body’s cells to function normally. The decline in testosterone bioavailability, or “free testosterone” causes the body’s testosterone receptor cells to malfunction and no longer respond to the testosterone signals.

Andropause is the direct result of low testosterone levels as well as decreased testosterone function. Testosterone deficiency can negatively impact nearly every cell in the male body and lead to the development of several major degenerative diseases.

Symptoms

Naturally, men and women have different experiences of their respective midlife hormonal changes. Although most women experience a very distinct set of symptoms before and during menopause, the symptoms men experience during andropause are not quite as obvious. In fact, symptoms in men are known to occur unexpectedly and often begin with a loss of energy, ambition, and sex drive, which can be overlooked or thought of like a form of depression or “burn-out.” Adequate levels of testosterone are imperative to a man’s health maintenance and general well-being.

Treatment

Although estrogen replacement for women has long been a controversial subject, the vast majority of studies show a risk-benefit ratio that favors hormone replacement therapy. Considerable research on testosterone replacement in men shows a very similar balance of benefit over risk and lead to a rapid improvement in overall physical function.

Testosterone therapy can improve the overall health and well-being of aging men by improving sex drive, mental function, and energy levels while reducing the risk of cardiovascular and associated diseases.

Testosterone therapy with pellets has become a highly sought-after method of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy in men, as it mimics the body’s natural secretion process of testosterone. Testosterone pellets are a compounded, bioidentical form of natural testosterone and implanted beneath the skin. The implanted testosterone pellets slowly dissolve over a period of four to six months, releasing a safe and consistent amount of testosterone into the body.

Testosterone therapy with pellets offers the benefits of individual dosing, and maintenance of healthy testosterone levels without the undesirable side effects often experienced with oral or transdermal testosterone products, such as increased clotting factors or impaired liver function.

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy with testosterone pellets can be a highly efficient and convenient method to prevent and relieve symptoms of andropause.
