What Is Microneedling?
If over-the-counter skin treatments are no longer effective, but you don't want surgery, learn more about nonsurgical procedures for skin rejuvenation, such as microneedling and microneedling with PRP. Certified nurse practitioner Amanda McDole and her team are pleased to perform microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) or microneedling with PRP at their office in Toledo, OH. Microneedling uses multiple fine-gauge needles to safely and effectively create micro-injuries in the needed areas of the skin. The micro-injuries trigger the natural production of collagen and elastin, two nutrients that enhance the health and appearance of your complexion. Often combined with other treatments, like serums or platelet-rich plasma (PRP), microneedling can help minimize scars, stretch marks, and pores. Make an appointment for a consultation at Vitality Health and Wellness Center to discover more about the results of microneedling and ways to personalize the treatment for your skin concerns and goals.
How Does Microneedling Work?
Microneedling is performed in a private treatment room in around 30 – 60 minutes with numbing cream or local anesthesia if desired, but patients generally report mild or no pain and discomfort. The skin will be cleaned before the handpiece is evenly passed over. After the microneedling is done, a treatment such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma) or a serum with a vitamin infusion can be applied for deeper penetration of the nutrients into the skin. A moisturizer selected for your skin type will be massaged in along with UV protection because the treated skin will be sensitive after the procedure.
If you opt for microneedling with PRP, someone from our medical team will draw your blood for your PRP collection. The blood will then be transferred to our laboratory for the separation process during which the stem cells, platelets, and growth factors can be made into PRP. For your microneedling therapy, we employ modern technology to make tiny holes in your skin. The little needles used will not harm your skin but will help stimulate collagen production. When the microneedling is finished, the PRP serum will be put on the epidermis to sink in. After the PRP is completely absorbed, we'll remove the serum and clean your skin.
What Are the Benefits of Microneedling?

- Low-risk, nonsurgical procedure option
- Reduction of scarring, uneven pigmentation, or stretch marks
- Reduced look of creases, lines, and signs of aging
